About Lachung

Perched at an elevation of approximately 2,900 meters (9,600 feet) near the Indo-Tibetan border, Lachung is a picturesque mountain village divided by the rushing waters of the Lachung Chu River. Known for its raw, untouched natural beauty, the village is framed by towering pine forests, dramatic rock faces, and majestic waterfalls that freeze into striking ice sculptures during the peak of winter. The local culture is deeply rooted in Tibetan-Buddhist traditions, managed by a unique traditional administrative system known as the Dzumsa.

Climate

Subalpine/Alpine climate. Winters (November to February) are severe and snowy, with temperatures dropping below freezing. Springs and autumns are cool and pleasant (10°C to 18°C), while summers are mild but prone to heavy monsoon rains that can cause landslides.
